There will be another treasure hunt with the Pogues! The Outer Banks cast announced on February 18 during their fan event Poguelandia that the show has been renewed for a fourth season, ahead of its third. Showrunners, executive producers, and co-creators of the show Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke said in a joint statement to Variety that “watching Poguelandia come to life was nothing short of spectacular.” “The Pogues are having the time of their lives, and when Outer Banks season 4 rolls around, we get to plot even more turns and turns on this wild trip. We are grateful to Netflix, our actors, and the incredible fans who made this possible.”
The season 3 finale expertly sets up the plot, despite the lack of information regarding the upcoming fourth season. An eighteen-month time leap that occurs after their exploits at El Dorado depicts the Pogues receiving recognition for their discoveries at home. They are also recruited to go on another adventure centered around Edward Teach, widely known as the notorious pirate Blackbeard, in the season three finale. Here’s all the information you need to know about the upcoming Outer Banks season.
Who is Coming Back For Season 4 of Outer Banks?
Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Rudy Pankow, Carlacia Grant, Austin North, and Drew Starkey are anticipated to return as the main cast members for Outer Banks season 4.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Daviss stated he’s curious to watch how the Pogues’ friendships develop in a fourth season.
“There’s no way they’re not treasure hunting, so how does that play into all of this?” he joked. “How is his current relationship with Kiara and JJ going? Does that make a difference? Does he and John B have a different relationship? Even after a year has gone, they remain friends. Therefore, I’m curious to learn more about all those interpersonal relationships.”
For Season 4 of Outer Banks, Who is Not Coming Back?
Following the heartbreaking deaths of Ward Cameron and John Routledge in the season 3 finale, it’s likely that Charles Esten and Charles Halford won’t be back for Outer Banks season 4.
Speaking with PEOPLE, Starkey discussed how he believes Rafe, his character, will respond to the death of his father, Ward Cameron, particularly after placing a hit out on him in season 3.
“It’s interesting because he’s already made the conscious decision to go into these unknown territories of independence this season,” he stated.
“You’ve seen him hang on to this dependence on his father and family for the first two seasons, but this season he lets go of that.” There are two possible outcomes: He had two options: accept it and go on, or respond a little more forcefully.”
What Can We Expect From Season 4?
The episode involves a significant time jump, as hinted at in the season 3 finale, as the Pogues are rewarded for finding El Dorado and given the chance to embark on a new journey, ostensibly in quest of renowned pirate Blackbeard’s secret riches.
The new treasure quest feels like a “fresh start” for Bailey, the actress told PEOPLE. “[Fans] should interpret it not as the end of an era, but we are very much summing up seasons one and two with a button,” she said.
Regarding the upcoming season, “It can go anywhere,” she declared. “I assume we have some kind of a clean slate.”
She’s hoping for a “solid win” for the Pogues in the upcoming season. “Based on the [season 3] finale we’ve had our treasure hunt fun, which was merely to help John B and also to help Pope’s family, and this seems somewhat like a job opportunity,” she said.
“I hope they welcome this fresh opportunity with additional insight and I have high hopes to see where the relationships go and how they’ve developed over these 18 months.”
Josh also hinted that to make up for the 18-month time jump, there will be multiple flashbacks in the next season. All we had to do was clear the decks. There will be new antagonists, a fresh treasure hunt, and fresh circumstances in life.”
When Did Filming For Season 4 Begin?
Filming was originally scheduled to begin in the summer of 2023 with the cast, however, it was postponed due to the writer’s and SAG strike. The actors moved from the show’s customary filming location of Charleston, South Carolina, to Wilmington, North Carolina, in November 2023 to begin filming the upcoming season.
When will season four of Outer Banks air?
Since it was only recently revealed in February 2023, the release date for Outer Banks season 4 is presently unknown. On Netflix, though, you may currently watch the first three seasons.
Will Season 5 of Outer Banks Air?
If Outer Banks season 4 of the program would be it’s last, Netflix has not said so. The four or five seasons that were originally planned for the series have been canceled, as revealed to EW by showrunners Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke.
The length of time it takes to reach that conclusion may vary, so I’m not sure if I can give a precise estimate at this time, but we do know how the story will conclude. “We will endure it for as long as possible,” Josh said to the newspaper.
