Texas junior Austin Metcalf, 17, was stabbed to death at the District 11-5A Championship track meet at David Kuykendall Stadium on April 2, 2025. It was a terrible event that will never be forgotten. The suspect, Carmelo Anthony, 17, from Centennial High School, has been caught and charged with murder in the first degree.

The altercation occurred around 10 a.m. during the track meet, featuring athletes from eight Frisco Independent School District schools. According to reports, the confrontation began when Anthony was asked to move from an incorrect seating area. As things got worse, Anthony is said to have stabbed Metcalf in the heart. Hunter, Metcalf’s identical twin brother, saw the attack and tried to save his brother by putting pressure on the cut. Austin tragically died from his wounds while being held by Hunter before help could arrive.
Austin Metcalf was an excellent student and player. He kept a 4.0 GPA and was named MVP of his school’s football team. He also did a lot of work with the National Honor Society and the track and field team. Jeff Metcalf, his father, was very sad about the death and said, “He was on the right track.” He was loved by many. He was a leader.” Despite the unimaginable pain, Jeff Metcalf extended forgiveness toward his son’s alleged attacker, remarking, “I already forgive this person. God takes care of things. God is going to take care of me. “My family will be safe with God.”

The Frisco Police Department is investigating what happened and wants anyone with information to contact them. They have told the people that there is no longer a fear. The Frisco Independent School District is very sad about what happened and is giving therapy to students and staff who were touched by it. They are also sending their respects to the Metcalf family.
On April 9, people from the community will meet at Hope Fellowship Church for a vigil to celebrate Austin Metcalf. They will remember his life and impact. The Frisco community is in grief over this terrible event, which shows how much Austin Metcalf affected those around him and how terrible it is when teens and young adults get violent.
