Taymor Travon McIntyre, known by his stage name Tay-K, has been convicted of murder for the second time in Texas. The 24-year-old rapper, who gained notoriety with his 2017 hit “The Race,” was found guilty of the 2017 fatal shooting of 23-year-old photographer Mark Anthony Saldivar in San Antonio. This conviction comes while Tay-K is already serving a 55-year sentence for a separate 2016 murder.
The incident occurred on April 23, 2017, when Tay-K, while evading authorities after fleeing house arrest, arranged a meeting with Saldivar under the pretense of a photoshoot. Criminal investigators say Tay-K tried to rob Saldivar, which led to a fight in a car. According to witnesses, Tay-K shot Saldivar after he got out of the car and climbed on the hood of it.

He then left the scene of the crime. Tay-K’s counsel claimed throughout the trial that the inquiry lacked adequate strong evidence and was primarily based on biased witness remarks. Notwithstanding these allegations, the jury decided Tay-K guilty of murder but cleared him of capital murder, therefore imposing a mandatory life term without parole. He now faces a sentence ranging from five to 99 years in prison.
Tay-K’s legal troubles began with his involvement in a 2016 home invasion in Mansfield, Texas, which resulted in the death of 21-year-old Ethan Walker. While awaiting trial for this case, he removed his GPS monitor and fled, recording and releasing “The Race.” Comprising his fleeing from the cops, the song went viral and has attracted over 250 million views on YouTube.
